Course Description

Close to 30% of adults are living with chronic pain, and the vast majority are 65 and older. Many older adults are prescribed opioids to manage chronic pain. But in the midst of the opioid crisis and risk for addiction, the question arises, "can older adults use opioids safely?" In this continuing education podcast episode, you'll learn about the history of opioid crisis, about the challenges and stigma faced by those living with chronic pain and substance use disorders. You'll also discover the impact of involuntarily withdrawing opioids from patients, as well as new methods for openly discussing pain and addiction issues with patients and how to encourage patients to seek help with pain and substance use issues.
