Course Description

Chronic stress can increase risk of cardiovascular events. Biofeedback training is increasingly being offered as part of stress management training in cardiac rehabilitation programs. Biofeedback is a self-regulatory therapy aimed at helping individuals gain greater awareness of their body’s own physiology in order to make healthy changes. In this presentation, participants will learn about the clinical utility of biofeedback, including the benefits of biofeedback and the physiological effects of biofeedback interventions. Heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback training has been found to lower blood pressure through increasing parasympathetic activity and may reduce cardiovascular risks. The presentation will also focus on HRV biofeedback and therapeutic benefits of HRV training in cardiac populations.
